Beaded Botany is a series of electron microscope enhanced photographs of botanical specimens. They are hand beaded and enhanced with pen and ink. The magic of seeing the plant parts magnified inspired me to embellish them.

Mixed media. Its dimensions are 25" x 19" in portrait orientation.

I am interested in the interplay of art and science. I prepare for my paintings by spending some time in the night sky of the desert (or distanced from city lights) and by exploring and attempting to understand and then give form to such scientific concepts as gravity and time. Specifically, I attempt to imagine our universe as if I am outside of it and looking at it from a distance. My work is an effort to give form to these hypothetical vistas and concepts.

My creative process includes meditation. I work out images as I see them in my mind’s eye and through direct observation.
