"At The Table With My Thoughts"

I create this piece as part of a prompt about journaling. It was fun to play around with Gouache, watercolor, and even gold leaf for the background.

I start every piece with a single sheet of black paper, cutting away bit by bit with a sharp blade until the design emerges. I find deep satisfaction in this process as it allows me to look at the world around me with an eye for shadows and light. The trickiest cuts to do are the ones where the two overlap, forcing me to rethink where each begins and ends.
